Missouri: Utilities

Electricity: Over the last decade, electrical power has increased steadily in Missouri. And, because our electricity supply is so dependable and non-fluctuating, you can also rely on the rates remaining reasonable. In the industrial sector, the average per kilowatt-hour rate is 4.76 cents, which is lower than the national rate of 6.39 cents. In the commercial sector, Missouri businesses will pay on average 6.34 cents per kilowatt-hour, much less than the U.S. average of 9.65 cents. Natural Gas: There are 28,327 miles of pipeline and gas main in Missouri. This means that in most areas of the state, there's enough natural gas available for industrial and commercial customers. Commercial natural gas consumers can expect to pay an average price of $11.82 per thousand cubic feet of natural gas in Missouri. Telecommunications: To compete in a fast-paced global economy, all businesses need access to information faster than ever before. That's why we are working hard to foster and environment that makes the best in telecommunications possible. No matter what your business communications requirements are, Missouri has the telecommunications resources and the commitment to meet your needs. With over 5,000 miles of fiber optics spanning the state and new telecommunications services rapidly expanding, Missouri businesses have instant access to the world through the simple touch of a button. In order to keep the best communication options available, Missouri encourages efforts in the public and private sectors that explore and implement the best technological advances in telecommunications. Deregulation of the telecommunications industry and the subsequent explosion in technologies and services has had huge implications for "tether less" communication. In Missouri, we continue our substantial investment in wireless communication and digital technologies. Missouri companies and their employees can "go global" with virtually no limitations on communication via phone, fax or modem regardless of location. The Public Service Commission (PSC) regulates over 800 investor-owned electric, natural gas, steam, telephone, water and sewer utilities. In addition, the PSC regulates the state's 47 rural electric cooperatives and 42 municipally-owned natural gas utilities for operational safety.
